History was made when the 41st Milo Marathon kicked off in Urdaneta City yesterday with more than 12,000 runners participating in the 21K, 10K, 5K, and 3K events.
Mayor Amadeo Gregorio Perez IV fired the starting gun for the various events as thousands of running enthusiasts from Northern Luzon and other regions flooded the race route to be part of history. It was the first time Urdaneta hosted a leg of the prestigious running spectacle.
Julius Sermona and Christabel Martes, both former Southeast Asian Games gold medalists, topped the men’s and women’s division, respectively, of the premier 21K event. Raymond Torio and Jelsie Sabado won the 10K event.
Local products Larry Bernardino and Maria Jonna Lina Abutas, who are consistent medalists for Team Urdaneta in the Region I Athletic Association Meet, copped the 5K title with James Bryle Ballester and Jennielyn Bacalando winning the 3K event.
In the Cheerdance Competitions – a side event of the Milo Marathon – the Urdaneta City National High School triumphed in the Secondary Division while the Urdaneta I Central School emerged victorious in the Elementary Division. The Pangasinan State University – Urdaneta Campus won in the Tertiary Division.
