Team Urdaneta Wins 38 Golds, Finishes 4th Overall in R1AA

Team Urdaneta, composed of the best athletes from the various secondary and elementary schools in the city, garnered 38 gold, 31 silver, and 43 bronze medals to emerge 4th overall in the Region 1 Athletic Association Meet held in Vigan City on March 3-11, 2017. 

The triumphant Urdaneta City athletes copped the overall championship in wrestling, wushu (boys), athletics (girls-secondary), arnis (girls-elementary), arnis (boys-elementary), and sepak takraw (girls-secondary).  

Its 4th overall ranking matched its best finish which was recorded in last year’s R1AA Meet.

Mayor Amadeo Gregorio Perez IV, Vice Mayor Julio Parayno III, and other city officials congratulated the winning athletes during the Flag Raising Ceremony last March 13. Mayor Perez lauded the athletic achievements of the youth athletes, calling them Urdaneta’s “true sporting heroes”.

 

Mayor Perez and the Sangguniang Panlungsod members gave cash incentives to the medalists and promised the continued strong commitment of the City Government toward supporting the training and development of the athletes in the city.
